About The Project
A request has been made to amend the Official Plan of the United Counties of Prescott & Russell (the counties) as well as an amendment to the Township of Alfred & Plantagenet (the township) Zoning By-law to permit the operation of an asphalt plant.
The location of the property is on the northern side of County Road 17 approximately 3 km west of Plantagenet, near Jessup’s Falls. The site is legally described as Part of Lot 18, Concession 2, in the former township of North Plantagenet, United Counties of Prescott & Russell(Subject land).
The proponents also applied for the removal of an Area of Natural Scientific Interest (ANSI) designation from part of the subject land, which also includes part of a significant woodland as designated by the United Counties of Prescott & Russell.
A number of issues have been raised by the Community Action Group.
There is evidence, in other residents’ oral and written objections, and from other communities, professional, government and non-government organizations that the proposed development is NOT in the public interest and that asphalt plants cause significant negative impact to:
- Quality of life;
- Health and safety;
- Environment;
- Natural heritage;
- Loss of other business revenue;
- Property values;
- Taxpayers’ costs for:
- Supporting infrastructure, such as road adjustments and maintenance;
- Pollution monitoring;
- Upgrading fire fighting capability;
- Disaster planning and response;
- Liability in case of a disaster;
- Legal challenges when asphalt plants are not benign to the concerns listed above.
